Elio & Oliver | Call Me By Your Name

Nothing is really “complete” when it comes to works of art, however many come near. One of these films is Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name. It is one of the year’s warmest, most moving, and tragic films that has appeared on the screen. It is a film that lives and breathes through the energy of romance and the emotional hurricane of youth, adapted from Andre Aciman’s acclaimed credit debut novel.

Elio Perlman, played by Timothee Chalamet, is a teen who is visiting his parents’ summer home. His father, portrayed by Michael Stuhlbarg, is a classics scholar, while his mother, played by Amira Casar, is a translator. Until a new visitor arrives, Elio spends his time drinking, loafing around town, and chasing after his old friend Marzia, portrayed by Esther Garrell. Every summer, Dr. Perlman hires a research assistant, and this year he invites the dashing 24-year-old Oliver, played by Armie Hammer, to stay at the family villa. At first, Elio and Oliver, who share a bed, barely speak to each other. Furtive glances lead to stronger ties, especially over their shared Jewish heritage, as both young men soak up the summer sun.
